Gregory Rogers lives in Brisbane. He studied fine art and worked as a graphic designer before taking up freelance in 1987. He is a talented musician, playing the cornetto, recorder, and baroque guitar with a love of music of the 16th and 17th centuries.  Gregory has illustrated hundreds of books and covers over almost  20 years in the industry. 

His plethora of books include 'Aunty Mary's Dead Goat' by Margaret Card, 'The Postman's Race' by Ian Trevaskis, 'Tracks' by Gary Crew, 'Way Home'

 

 

Teaching Staff

 

The teachers at Illustration House are industry professionals with thorough understanding of the industry they work in, with years of technical experience behind them.  More importantly is the fact that all our teaching staff have a strong desire to pass their knowledge on to others, and see them achieve excellent results and growth in their chosen area.

 

 

                                 

 

 

 

 

 

 

by Libby Hawthorn', 'Running Away From Home by Nigel Gray. His book 'The Boy, The Bear, The Baron, The Bard', a text-less picture book was on the New York Times Best Illustrated Book List in December 2004, with the sequel having been released in September 2006

 

Gregory  has won numerous awards including the British Kate Greenaway Medal for 'Way Home'. He was the first Australian to have received the honour.

Gregory Rogers

Marcel, a French Canadian, is a modern master oil painterHe is a rare teacher who takes students through an extensive array of traditional and modern applications in the use of oil paints through both introductory and advanced courses.

 

Marcel’s realistic paintings combine a classical elegance with the enigmatic mystery of surrealism. Marcel held his first exhibition in his homeland of Quebec in 1975 where has a strong following.

 

 

 

 

Tony Champ is one of the best Acrylic Artists this country has ever produced.  Tony's work was seen weekly in the Courier-Mail for almost eight years.  

He won the Australian Realist Artist Award in 1990, and again in 1992, 1993, and 1994.  His amazing ability to illustrate in the realistic, or fantasy,  through the acrylic medium is nothing short of brilliant.  He is also equally at home in the fine art arena. Tony teaches at Illustration House through one and two day workshops, usually held on weekends.

 

 

 

Kathy Sullivan, Children's art teacher at Illustration House

Kathy Sullivan is a qualified children’s art teacher, and takes both our children’s and young artist’s classes here at Illustration House.  Kathy, a gifted artist is adept at seeing children engage in what they are doing, and confidently grow as young artists.

 

She is a recent newcomer to Australia, having emigrated from England with her 13 year old daughter, and Australian born husband John, who is also a fully qualified teacher and writer.

Martina Matussek emigrated from Germany in 1992 where she was a commercial illustrator.  She went on to undertake further study in illustration when settling in Brisbane, and then completed a Diploma of Graphic Design in 1996.

 

She is not only a very talented artist in her own right, but has a gifted ability to pass on her knowledge to both children and adults, and teaches across the drawing disciplines as well as the advanced children’s art class.

 

Sean Leahy, The Courier-Mail cartoonist has joined the team at Illustration House and offers weekend workshops in cartooning.

of Australia's leading Political Cartoonists and the creator of 'Beyond The Black Stump' Cartoon strip, Leahy shares his wealth of experience and expertise developed over 2 decades as one of Australia's foremost cartoonists.

 

Lorraine Rogers is an extraordinary colourist.  She has an innate ability to depict seascapes, landscapes and bush scenes in incredible depth.

Although a master at a broad range of subjects from realistic to abstract, Lorraine is best know for her work in the natural settings of sea and bush-scapes.  She recently returned from a trip to Europe and teaches one and two day workshops here at Illustration House.

 

He spent many years studying the painting techniques of the old masters, and has been greatly influenced by the painting styles of the Renaissance artists. Central to his art is his ambition to capture beauty through perfection in nature, such as his amazing oversized floral paintings.

Mako Waki  grew up in Japan, where she developed a great passion of drawing and painting. Later living in the  Netherlands with her husband she had the opportunity to visit museums all around Europe and view hundreds of the  masters' paintings, which inspired her to further her interest in art. 

Mako moved to Australia with her husband and daughter in 1989, and began to realise her affinity with pastel.

She has developed quite amazing sense of colour and ability to capture realism in many varied subjects with the use of pastel. Mako comes to Illustration House as a master teacher in the medium and provides 1 & 2 day workshops.
